Rant Video for Kentucky DSLR Ban Posting Tomorrow

I am still a little furious from learning about the ban of interchangeable lens cameras at this years Kentucky Derby.  So furious, that I went out to the track today to make a video about it.  I wanted to do it yesterday but the weather was pretty nasty.  At any minute it looked like the sky was going to open up with rain.  Today was no better though.  So today being the last day I could make such a video, off to the racetrack I went.

The weather was not to bad, but the wind gust of 17kts was a little excessive for making a video.  I lost tremendous sound quality by the wind blowing into the mic.  It's not to bad though, video is still watchable as me entertaining the camera makes you forget about the horrible sound quality.

Well tomorrow, I will post the video, please look out for it.  Subscribers to my youtube channel will know right away.  I encourage you to subscribe if your not a subscriber as well.  I promise I will make it worth your click.

Have a great day everyone.  I hope you enjoyed your weekend.

Kentucky Derby 2013 Bans All Interchangeable Lens Cameras

The Kentucky Derby says - "While some cameras and phones with cameras will still be allowed, camcorders, tripods and other video equipment will be banned along with cameras that have detachable lenses or cameras equipped with lenses more than 6 inches."

Envy Me Images says - "This is absolutely ridiculous. All they have to do is examine all cameras more closely, even if they have to x-ray them.  I mean, Its not like a bomb can only be placed in a dslr and not a point and shoot. lol. They are letting all of this terrorist prevention stuff hinder our freedoms. That means the terrorist are winning. smh".  We are losing more simple, everyday freedoms, everyday.  They are making it NO FUN to go to any event. If they going to ban anything, ban "PRESSURE COOKERS".  I'm fine with that.  There's no need for anyone to be cooking on the racetrack anyway. LOL.  I can rattle on and on about this one, so I am going to force myself to stop.  Some people probably don't agree with me on what I am saying.  If you are one of those people, leave a comment.  Lets talk about this one.  If you agree, leave a comment also.

Sigma announces 18-35mm f/1.8 APS-C and DX Zoom Lens. A True Breakthrough for Camera Lenses

This lens is definitely a breakthrough lens, especially coming from a manufacturer other than Nikon, Canon, or Sony.  Yes, Sigma breaking new barriers and offering a 18-35mm zoom lens with a constant aperture of 1.8 throughout the entire focal range.  The only thing similar are the 17-55mm Zoom lens that Nikkor and Canon offer with a constant aperture of f/2.8 and a Pentax 16-50mm f/2.8.  Olympus has a few f/2.0 that I am not to familiar with so I won't go there, but you can google it to find out more info on that.  Amazingly, this lens is only for an APS-C camera or the DX format.  So effectively it's focal range would come to 27-53mm when you multiply the crop factor.  Finally a quality piece of glass made specifically for a DX or APS-C camera.

Now I absolutely love my Nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8.  This lens basically stays attached to my body at all times.  If I want to achieve more bokeh effect, I switch to my Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 or my Sigma 70-200 f/2.8.  But that is my only complaint about the Nikkor 17-55mm.  It is hard to achieve a buttery type bokeh with that lens, being that it is a DX lens.  I think with this new Sigma lens with a constant aperture of f/1.8, bokeh problem should be solved.  The only thing I wish is that the focal range went all the way out to 55mm.  I can't wait to see some images from this lens so I can make a decision or not to purchase it.  I am an avid fan of Sigma Lenses.  I only own one Sigma lens, but the lens is great.  I really feel that Nikkor lenses are totally over priced.  Unless your a pixel peeper, you are not going to see a difference between the two.  Now I am not downing the Nikkor lenses as they are superior.  The focus on Nikkor lenses are lightning fast and the build quality is second to none, but if your looking to save about $1000 bucks on a lens, don't be afraid to give Sigma lenses a try.  If you don't like it, you can always return it.

Now there is no release date or price available as of now since Sigma didn't release it yet.  I imagine more info will be released including the MSRP in the weeks to come.  If I had to guess a price for this lens, I would say $1200.  If it comes out to be less than that, it would be a steal.

So what do you think?  Please comment down below.  Let me know if your going to include this lens in your arsenal.

Comment - Honestly I have times where I saw an image from a T4i and got jealous being that I use a 5d mark 2

My Response:
A lot of people get caught up in the illusion of "amateur camera" or "entry level" and don't want it just because of that reason alone. But if you look at the specs of the low end cameras, they really rival the ones on the high end. Now back in the day, that was not the case, but today with all of the advancements of technology and cost coming down. The low end cameras have "good guts" in them.

The only main difference now is full frame vs cropped and the benefits of having a full frame sensor. Those benefits being higher iso sensitivity and better dynamic range. Full frame cameras also have a better build quality. But who cares as long as you don't drop it. lol
